This past Sunday, your illustrious Solar Reporter dusted off his bicycle and rode (braving aggressive LA drivers) from Culver City to the Santa Monica Festival in Clover Park.
It was a blast... the weather was perfect, lots of people (without being too crowded) and I met some great folks who are working to make Santa Monica a sustainable city.
As soon as I arrived, I naturally gravitated to the solar array that EE Solar had set up. BOTH music stages were totally solar powered.
Kids flocked around the array and delighted in touching the cool PV setup.EE Solar spokesman Alfred Benoit told me their 5x32-ft solar array produced 2-3 kW depending on the brightness of the sun and was charging batteries which powered the event. By the end of the day, the six Sharp 200W panel system had produced about 19 kWh of energy in total.
Kudos to Santa Monica for setting benchmarks in civic sustainability!
