More key points from the PV Summit:
Renewable energy must be integrated into the building process. It should be part of every new residential, commercial and government building. Solar PV can be integrated into building materials, so it doesn’t have that kludged, stuck-on look. When the cost of a solar PV system is amortized into a new home’s 30-year mortgage, the additional cost becomes negligible.
If the U.S. makes a commitment to lead the solar power revolution, we can drive our economy by selling Clean Tech to the rest of the world.
Solar power can be a significant factor is mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, but that’s not the only benefit. Investment in solar power is close to being a competitive advantage for industry; by 2012 it will be equal to or less than the cost of traditional fossil fuels and the costs remain fixed and predictable over the long-term (which can’t be said about fossil fuels).
Solar power is the ultimate answer to the NIMBY effect. Which fuel source would you want to have in your backyard: nuclear plant, open-pit coalmine, oil well, natural gas well or a solar array? ‘Nuff said!
